The Worst Seasonal Allergy by Pollen at Its Worst

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Such a good timing! I have been seeing more and more people sneezing, tearing, nose-blowing on the street, at my home, and my office, since I saw the spring wind blow a cloud of yellow pollens at the pine trees in my neighborhood.

I also have been sneezing and tearing down and also treating my patients, below is the news of this morning at AP, talking about the worst pollen in years, Florida, Texas and Colorado, but Los Angeles is also experiencing the worst pollen and allergy season.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Pollen: It’s on your car, in the air and especially in your sinuses.

Plentiful Pollen

From Florida to Texas to Colorado, 2010 is shaping up to be a monster of an allergy season. The words “pollen” and “allergy” are among the top 10 trending topics on Twitter in several U.S. cities. Everywhere, it seems, is covered in a fine yellow dust that irritates our lives. Experts say it’s the worst they’ve seen in years in many areas.

“It’s wicked bad this year,” said Dr. Mona Mangat, an allergy specialist in St. Petersburg, Fla., who can’t recall a worse year in the six she’s worked there. “We’re just overwhelmed with patients right now. We’re double- and triple-booked with new patients, trying to work people in because we know how much people are suffering.”

The simple things to avoid or ameliorate the symptoms:

1. Avoid the pollen blowing time

2. Clear your sinus – use the neti pot

3. Drink plenty of water – ’1.5~ 2 liter per day’

4. Take Vitamin D – 400 – 800IU per day

And if you continuosly have the same symptoms, try acupuncture and/or herbs for that.

This Morning New york Times-Does milk make you phlegmy?

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Waiting my order for breakfast this morning, the title on the screen – Does milk make you phlegmy?-caught my eyes, since I just ask my wife to cut the amount of milk and the dairy product for our 4 year old son- showing some seasonal allergy reaction, sneezing, stuffy nose, and phlegmy in the throat.

 yes, and I checked this article in its website;

Does Milk Make You Phlegmy?

In an article last year about health myths, I wrote about research showing that drinking milk does not increase nasal secretions, cough or congestion.

But readers like this one named Diggs disagreed:

I don’t believe that milk makes me phlegmy because I read it somewhere. I believe that milk makes me phlegmy because every time I drink milk I get phlegmy.

Now, Anahad O’Connor offers additional information in his latest “Really?” column. He writes:

A new report suggests a possible explanation: only a small group of people are susceptible. The theory is described in Medical Hypotheses, a journal devoted to publishing bold and sometimes radical biomedical theories.

I’ve had some seasonal allergy since 5 or 6 years old and stopped drinking milk awhile ago and my allergy symptoms got alot better. I feel more like when you have phlegmy in the throat, drinking milk increase it.
